Thinking & Practice 17/02/14

In this session we looked at how to assemble packaging (by hand with craft knife, ruler and glue) and how they do it professionally using cutting machines in mass production. We looked into what different materials would be suitable and were told about how to properly cut – using steady strokes of the craft knife, mat and ruler – do not force it to cut through in one stroke. Use several strokes to get a clean, accurate line. We were also shown about bleed and how to set the lines up in Illustrator in order to know which to cut and which to score (solid lines are cut, dashed lines are scored). Another tutorial that was quite useful was how to create a digital mockup in photoshop using the free transform tool.
